With a bang, I might add. In high spirits, Nannah declared that she didn't want her grandchildren to be in a summer school program. Instead, she reasoned, they should enjoy the carefree, never-ending summers that we all experienced.
She then proceeded to enroll them in ``a few" activities - swim lessons, swim team, the local wilderness program, the library reading program, roller hockey...you get the picture. We were all exhausted at the end of week 1. Don't you know I reminded Nannah of her ``never-ending summer" vision.
Carolyn & Robert - the human fish
As part of the summer fun, Robert and Carolyn are attending both swim lessons, swim team, and various swim meets. We have the honor of having the smallest (Carolyn) and the skinniest (guess who) members of the team. Robert's natural competitive drive has taken him from one of the slower splits (it's tough to be fast when you have to hold your nose as you jump in) to what is now one of the best back strokers in his age group.
Carolyn is less focused on competing (gee wiz, she's how old?) and enjoying the attention from her various ``big buddies".I guess you can say that the kids are doing ``swimmingly" (oh, I can hear the groans even now)!
Anxious to try out my new grill one evening, I look over at Robert and ask, ``what do you think I should cook on our new grill?" He looks up thoughtfully, and places his tilted head in his cupped hand. After a few moments of thoughtful consideration, he responds ``I'm thinking...Olive Garden!" Ladies...in another 15 years (my husband would say 30) he'll be on the market!
